The U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2025 will be jointly hosted by Thailand and Malaysia
In an announcement made by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on a recent Sunday, the cricket world learned of the hosts for several upcoming U19 cricket tournaments. Sri Lanka has been chosen to host the U19 Men’s World Cup in 2024, while Malaysia and Thailand have secured the rights to host the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2025. The selection process was led by a subcommittee chaired by Martin Snedden, and the final decisions were accepted by the ICC’s board of directors following a thorough evaluation of each bid.
In a historic moment earlier this year, Team India emerged victorious in the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. They clinched the title on January 29, 2023, by defeating England by seven wickets in the final match. Shafali Verma captained the Indian team, marking a significant achievement as they had never won a World Cup championship at any level before. The final was a thrilling contest between India and England, with England earning their spot in the inaugural Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup final by defeating Australia, while India triumphed over New Zealand in the semi-finals.
Looking ahead, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly host the U19 Men’s World Cup in 2026, while Bangladesh and Nepal will collaborate as co-hosts for the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2027. These tournaments promise to bring exciting cricketing action and provide a platform for young talents to shine on the international stage.
The ICC also unveiled the qualification processes for these tournaments. In the Women’s T20 World Cup, the top three teams from each group in the 2023 edition, along with the host nation Bangladesh (if not in the top three of Group 1), and the next four highest-ranked teams on the T20I Rankings as of February 27, 2023, will secure automatic berths. The remaining two slots will be determined through a 10-team Women’s T20 Global Qualifier.
In the Men’s 50-over World Cup qualification process, 10 teams will receive automatic qualification. These teams will comprise the next eight best teams in the ODI Rankings, with the inclusion of Full Member hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe. The final four spots will be determined through a Global Qualifier.
